American Red Cross Responds to International
Disasters
The American Red Cross is
already responding on American Samoa with our local volunteers, and can now
accept gifts from the public for the typhoon and flooding in Southeast Asia.
You can help the victims of American Samoa, Southeast Asia, and countless
crises around the world each year by making a financial gift to the American Red
Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief and
long-term support through supplies, technical assistance, and other support to
help those in need. The American Red Cross honors donor intent. If you wish to
designate your donation to a specific disaster (For example: Typhoons and
Floods in Southeast Asia), please do so at the time of your donation.
Donations may be mailed to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington DC
20013 or to your local American Red Cross Chapter. Donations may also be made by
phone at 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767) or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish). Donations
to the International Response Fund (not donations designated for a
specific disaster) can be made online.
We are encouraging all residents of American Samoa to register on the Safe
and Well website. With one registration on the Safe and Well website, a
disaster-affected person can provide peace of mind to loved ones. This
easy-to-use tool is available at the Red
Cross website. The Safe and Well website allows friends and family to search for registrants’ posted messages and see that they are
safe. People without access to a computer, without electricity, or in need of
help from an interpreter can call the Red Cross at 1-800-REDCROSS
(1-800-733-2767).
Please note that the Sacramento Sierra Chapter does not accept in-kind
donations for international relief operations.
Red Cross Monitoring H1N1 Flu Situation
Download and print your Flu
Checklist from RedCross.org.
The Sacramento Sierra Chapter of the American Red Cross is aware of the
current H1N1 flu cases in the United States and Mexico. Currently, the American
Red Cross is monitoring the situation and the American Red Cross National
Headquarters is in close contact with federal and state health officials,
including the Center for Disease Control.
The Red Cross urges all to take precautionary measure and Be Red Cross Ready:
Remember to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or
sneeze; throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or
sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and
limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
For people seeking information on H1N1 flu, the CDC Web site provides
the latest information, which can also be obtained by calling 1-800-CDC-INFO.
For general information on the flu and how to stay healthy, please refer to the
Flu
Checklist on RedCross.org.

Empowering Communities
The American Red Cross empowers ordinary people to perform extraordinary acts
in emergency situations. We train. We mobilize. We connect donors and volunteers
to those in urgent need of a helping hand. Whether it is a hurricane or a heart
attack; a call for blood or a call for help, the American Red Cross is
there.
Last year in our community, because of people like you we were able to
respond to 232 local disasters, including 224 residential fires. We helped 1,095
affected individuals and 334 families with emergency food, shelter and
supplies.
Together, we can transform a life in
crisis into a life of hope.
